The main responsibilities of the engineer in charge of tire maintenance are ensuring the smooth operation of the vehicle fleet, minimizing downtime due to improper use of tires (proper tire choice, planning of technical activities and improving the tire operating skills of personnel, etc.), determining emergencies and causes of tire failure, tire rotation, disposal and proper storage of tires.

A tire engineer has to be equipped with a number of quality professional tools to carry out these functions.

A basic toolkit for qualitative tire inspections
Tire pressure gauge
The tire pressure is a fundamental indicator when operating a pneumatic tire.

A professional calibrated tire pressure gauge is one of the basic tools of a tire engineer.
Gloves
Statistics show that over 30% of workplace injuries are related to hand injuries. For the safe pneumatic tire inspections, the hands of a tire engineer must be protected with professional gloves.

We recommend gloves made by CESTUS, e.g. the HM IMPACT model.

Triple-layer foam (orange part) on the top protects hands from hits, cuts and abrasions, while thermoplastic rubber on fingers area protects nails and fingers from aggressive external factors. The bright color of the gloves and reflective inserts on fingers offer better hand visibility in low-light conditions. The one-piece DNX GRIP palm inside the gloves provides double cut protection and increased grip control. It is double stitched to add durability and strength in areas of greatest wear. The wrist is comfortably fixed with an adjustable cuff.
Tire tread depth gauge
Measuring the tire tread depth is necessary for rating tires and choosing the most effective solution (tire model and brand) in the operating conditions of a transport company. Such tool is a must have for every tire engineer.

There are two types of tire tread depth gauge: for OTR tires and truck tires.
Valve screwdriver
A valve screwdriver (valve core remover) is used specifically to insert or remove a valve core from a car tire. A nipple screwdriver is necessary to diagnose the state of the valve system.

It should be in the toolkit of every employee responsible for tires in the enterprise.
Valve core kit
For quick replacement during pressure measurement in case of a damaged valve core.
Pliers
For solving urgent tasks.
USB flash drive
For recording and storing data.
Thermal imager (optional)
We suggest using a thermal imager for a more comprehensive analysis of the tire operation process. Based on our experience, the most convenient tool is the CAT S60 mobile phone with an integrated thermal imager. It is not affected by external factors and has an IP67 protection level.

The information obtained in the infrared spectrum allows determining thermal damage to the tire at an early stage and the tire load distribution, as well as estimating how well the tire compound is matched to the specific operating conditions. By obtaining the relevant information, a tire engineer can implement measures to improve tire operational efficiency.

For example: apply the Crosstyre system (tire mate), choose a tire with a different compound or tread height, carry out a professional claim settlement with tire suppliers, plan the tire dismantling and repair at an early stage of tire damage.
Tool case
You can store your tools in a handy case and take it with you for inspection work.
